Kazimierz Sakowicz

Kazimierz Sakowicz was a Polish journalist and soldier who played a significant role in the Polish resistance against Nazism. Born in 1894, he witnessed the Ponary massacre in German-occupied Vilnius, a prolonged atrocity that had a profound impact on his life and work. As a journalist, Sakowicz was driven to document the events unfolding around him, and he kept a detailed diary of his experiences during this time.

Sakowicz's diary, which he buried in his garden for safekeeping, is a testament to his bravery and dedication to recording the truth. Although he was murdered in 1944, his diary was recovered and reconstructed after the war, and it was eventually published under the title Ponary Diary.
