Nahum M. Sarna
British-Israeli-American biblical scholar (1923–2005)
Nahum M. Sarna was a distinguished biblical scholar with a career spanning multiple continents. Born in 1923, he would go on to become a prominent figure in the field of linguistics, particularly in the study of biblical texts. His work focused on the books of Genesis and Exodus, demonstrating a deep understanding of the subject matter. Sarna's expertise in linguistics played a crucial role in his analysis and interpretation of these foundational texts.
Throughout his career, Sarna made significant contributions to the field of biblical scholarship. His book, Understanding Genesis, published in 1966, remains a notable work in the study of the Bible. Additionally, he played a key role in the development of the JPS Torah Commentary, contributing to the first two volumes released in 1989 and 1991. Sarna was also involved in the translation of the Kethuvim section of the Jewish Publication Society's Bible translation, known as the New Jewish Publication Society of America Version.
