Joseph Pardo was a prominent Italian rabbi and merchant who played a significant role in the Jewish communities of Venice and Amsterdam. Born in Thessaloniki, he relocated to Venice prior to 1589, where he assumed the position of rabbi to the Levantine community. In addition to his religious duties, Pardo was also involved in commercial activities, reflecting the multifaceted nature of his career.

Pardo's career took a notable turn when he emigrated to the Netherlands, where he was appointed Hakham of the Bet Ya'akob congregation in Amsterdam. This congregation had been founded by Jacob Tirado, and Pardo held the office from 1597 until his death. Through his literary and religious endeavors, Pardo made contributions to the field of literature, leaving a lasting impact on the communities he served.
