Lucien Sciuto

Ottoman Jewish journalist and Zionist activist (1868–1947)

Lucien Sciuto was a prominent Ottoman Jewish figure, born in 1868 in Thessaloniki, within the Ottoman Empire. Sciuto's most notable endeavor was the founding of L'Aurore, a magazine that eventually evolved into a newspaper. Initially published in Istanbul, L'Aurore later relocated to Cairo, where it continued to be published from 1909 to 1941, with a notable five-year hiatus. This publication served as a significant outlet for Sciuto's Zionist activism and journalistic expression, allowing him to reach a wide audience and promote his ideas. Sciuto passed away in 1947, leaving behind a legacy as a dedicated educator, writer, and advocate for Zionist causes.
