Nina Cassian was a multifaceted Romanian writer who made significant contributions to the field of literature. Additionally, she was a skilled musician, proficient as a pianist and composer, and also worked as a film critic, demonstrating her diverse range of talents.

Cassian spent the majority of her life in Romania before relocating to the United States in 1985 to take up a teaching position. She eventually settled in New York City, which became her home after being granted permanent asylum.
