Tuvya Ruebner
Israeli poet and translator (1924–2019)
Tuvya Ruebner was a prominent Israeli poet and translator, born in 1924, who made significant contributions to the literary world. He wrote poetry in both Hebrew and German, and his translation work included rendering poems from Hebrew into German and vice versa. In addition to his creative pursuits, Ruebner was a scholar, teacher, and editor, overseeing the publication of numerous literary books. His academic career was marked by his position as Emeritus Professor of German and Comparative Literature at Haifa University and Oranim College.
Throughout his career, Ruebner received numerous literary awards in Israel, Germany, and Austria, culminating in the prestigious Israel Prize for Poetry in 2008. This highest honor bestowed by the State of Israel recognized Ruebner as one of the most important Hebrew poets of his time.
