Victor Tevah
Chilean conductor (1912–1988)
Victor Tevah was a renowned Chilean conductor, born in 1912 to a family of Jewish-Greek ancestry. His notable career in music spanned several decades, with various appointments to prominent orchestras and institutions. In 1947, Tevah began his long-standing tenure as director and conductor of Chile's Symphony Orchestra, a position he held until 1985. During this time, he also took on other directorial roles, including a stint with the Argentine Philharmonic in 1961.
Tevah's international career continued to flourish in the 1960s, as he became director of the Casals Festival and Orchestra, as well as the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra and the Puerto Rico Conservatory, from 1966 to 1979. Through these appointments, Tevah demonstrated his versatility and expertise as a conductor, leading various ensembles and institutions with distinction. He passed away in 1988, leaving behind a legacy as a prominent figure in the world of classical music.
