Yitskhok Rudashevski
scrittore lituano
Yitskhok Rudashevski was a Jewish teenager who resided in the Vilna Ghetto, Lithuania, during World War II. As a young writer, he maintained a diary from June 1941 to April 1943, chronicling his daily life and the hardships he faced within the ghetto. Through his writings, Rudashevski provided a personal and intimate account of the struggles and challenges endured by those living in the Vilna Ghetto during this period.
Tragically, Rudashevski's life was cut short when he was killed in the Ponary massacre, which occurred during the liquidation of the Vilna Ghetto in September and October 1943. His diary, however, survived him and was discovered by his cousin, Sorah Kliwiec, in 1944. Kliwiec, who had escaped the ghetto and fought with Jewish partisans, returned to the hideout after Vilnius was liberated, and it was there that she found Rudashevski's diary, ensuring that his story and experiences would be preserved for future generations.
