Socalled

Socalled, born Joshua Dolgin in 1976, is a Canadian musician who has made a name for himself as a rapper and producer. His unique sound blends hip-hop with a diverse range of styles, including klezmer, drum & bass, and folk music. As a skilled pianist and accordion player, Socalled has explored various musical traditions, reflecting his eclectic approach to music.

With a background that spans multiple cultural influences, including Ukrainian, Romanian, and Russian roots, Socalled has collaborated with a wide range of artists. He has performed with notable musicians such as David Krakauer's Klezmer Madness!, Michael Winograd, C-Rayz Walz, Chilly Gonzales, Fred Wesley, and Sophie Solomon. Socalled has also shared his expertise through teaching and workshops, including at Klezfest London, where he has taught accordion and led sessions on "hiphopkele", a fusion of hip-hop and klezmer music.
