Will Eisner

William Erwin Eisner was a renowned American cartoonist, writer, and entrepreneur who made significant contributions to the comic book industry. Born in 1917, Eisner was one of the pioneers in the field, and his work on The Spirit, a series that ran from 1940 to 1952, showcased his innovative approach to content and form. This series is notable for its experimentation, which paved the way for future generations of cartoonists.

Eisner's impact on the industry extended beyond his creative work. He played a crucial role in popularizing the term "graphic novel" with the publication of A Contract with God in 1978. Additionally, his book Comics and Sequential Art, released in 1985, was an early contribution to formal comics studies. In recognition of his achievements, the Eisner Award was established in his honor, and he was one of the inaugural inductees to the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame.
